How much life insurance do you need?
Worksheet: income replacement period, outstanding debts, schooling expectations, and what you've already saved.
Standard approach: calculate what you earn annually, multiply by the years you want covered, add debts and education costs, then subtract existing savings and work benefits. You don't need perfection—term policies increment by $50,000 anyway.
Coverage estimate
Formula: (annual income × years of protection) + total debts + education budget − current savings and group life = your target. Round to the nearest $50,000.
Why those inputs
Coverage years. Most rely on 10–20 years; your right answer depends on when dependents become independent. Hesperia families often pick longer terms because housing and kids' expenses run high together.
Mortgages and debts. Most Hesperia families owe on a home; debts also include car loans, student loans, and business obligations. Coverage that clears these gives your family options.
Educational funding. A rough sum per child in present value. Preparing now is more straightforward than taking a supplemental policy down the road.
Current resources. Available money and job-linked insurance. Employment-based plans end when you leave, so lots of families include just part of this total.
Use the quote calculator to test that amount across all carriers and 10-30-year options. Higher amounts often make sense—the extra monthly cost is negligible at younger ages.
